Sexual health is not just about testing for sexually transmitted diseases (STD) or just about “sex”. Sexual health can be difficult to define (check out how WHO uses a few pages trying to define 2 words).
It might be easier to explain it in terms of what can go wrong.
Some of the common complaints are:
- No interest in sex or problems enjoying intercourse
- Painful sex
- Problems sustaining intercourse, such as erectile dysfunction
- Orgasmic issues
- Delayed ejaculation, premature ejaculation, retrograde ejaculation
- Fear of having intercourse
- Sex addiction
There is often a “quick fix” by taking medications or certain measures, but here at Zenith Medical Clinic, we believe it would do the couple a great disservice to ignore the holistic approach.
A multidisciplinary team approach is usually helpful. At Zenith Medical Clinic, our doctors will take a full medical history and examination. Sometimes, we might run some tests to look for possible medical problems.
Thereafter, treatment will normally be in the form of patient education and counselling.
Depending on the severity and needs of the couple, our psychologist might also need to see the couple for mindfulness-based therapies. Sometimes, the couple may need to see a urologist or gynecologist under our recommendation.
We have had many success stories based on this team-based approach, but will be unable to share them with you due to the intimate nature of things.
